05-30-2019: Keeping Active

Unfortunately, rainy weather and car problems have prevented me from taking any major hikes over the past week. It seems as though every single day has hosted thunderstorms at some point. Driving down the road from South Mountain damaged the breaks on my car and until they can be repaired I'll be unable to drive any steep mountain trails. However, I don't like going more than a week without a post, and I have still been active, doing activities and travelling and taking pictures.

Clouds at sunset reach into the spring sky.
Maple leaves shine in the morning sunlight.
Mornings in the Catskills are often very foggy; sometimes this fog persists throughout the day.
Stopping at the overlook in Middletown I watched the fog rise from the rural valleys below.
Clouds float between the overlook and Hubbell Hill.
This vantage point overlooks the area where the western Catskills turn from mountains to ridges and hills.
Thin clouds still obscured New Kingston Mountain until late in the morning.
I found this young rabbit under a hay bale while cleaning up for the summer.
View west from the summit of Leonard Mountain in Gilboa NY. Bald Hill is left of center; to its right is Mine Hill.
A more northwesterly view from Leonard Mountain. Mine Hill and Mount Jefferson are at the left.
A view of the Blenheim Reservoir, the most northerly source of NYC's water supply.
Looking northwest from the overlook, over the hills of Schoharie County.
View of Mace Road in Gilboa from the top of the mountain, about a mile and a half away.
During the drive to the top of the mountain my lens got smeared by something. That distortion is visible in this two-mile shot of Harrington Road.
A butterfly rests on Leonard Mountain's summit. A number of butterflies swarmed the fire tower, which was in an unclimbable condition.
