02-2019: Greene County NY

I decided to visit every single post office in Greene County, New York. I put these pictures on Google Maps through the Local Guides program, but I won't burden you with them. Rather, enjoy images of the beautiful places I stopped at along the way.

Southward view of the Catskill Escarpment seen from Greenville NY. Peaks from left to right are: Arizona Mountain, Blackhead Mountain, Black Dome, Acra Point, Thomas Cole Mountain, Burnt Knob, and Windham High Peak.
Sunlight shines through a snowy hemlock and beech forest in Norton Hill.
View of the Coxsackie Creek, seen from the parking area at the undeveoped New Baltimore Detached Forest Preserve in New Baltimore NY.
This west-facing image was taken in Gilboa NY, in neighboring Schoharie County, on my way to Prattsville. From left to right: Irish Mountain, Jump Hill, Moresville Range, McGregor Mountain, Utsayantha.
Looking south from a parking area in Prattsville along the Schoharie Creek. In the foreground is Kipp Hill, in the background Vly Mountain.
View SW from another parking area along the Schoharie, this one in Lexington. I'm not sure what mountain that is TBH, sorry.
Looking northeast along CR-23C in East Jewett. Caudal and Thomas Cole Mountain rise from the flat terrain of the Jewett Valley.
Hunter Mountain from the north, quite prominent from the intersection of NY-23A and NY-214 in Hunter.
Leavitt Peak rises to the northwest of the Lanesville post office near Greene County's southern border. The small community is surrounded by mountains on all side, and Route 214 is the only road connecting it to the world.
The black waters of the Hollow Tree Brook flow through the Diamond Notch in Lanesville.
Looking north from Edgewood, Plateau Mountain's steep slope form the east side of the Stony Clove Notch. The Devil's Path climbs the mountain from its steepest approach.
The east side of Chadderdon Lake, high up Windham HP in Acra NY. CR-31 cuts the long lake in two.
The west side of Chadderdon Lake, with the lower slopes of Acra Point to the left.
This picture is again of Schoharie County, taken in Middleburgh in the lower Schoharie Valley. Cotton Hill is to the left; Armlin Hill is engulfed by clouds to the right.
Intermittent sunlight on Cotton Hill and the farmland in the floodplain below. Again in Middleburgh.
This farm straddles the border between Windham and Ashland, high above the fog layer that covered the valley at the time. Bump Mountain is prominent right of center.
View of the west side of Cave Mountain seen from an intersection in Ashland. The other side of the mountain is home to the popular Windham Ski Resort.
The rear side of the Windham Path in Hensonville has spectacular views. Windham HP is at the left, with the Blackhead Range, notable Thomas Cole (partially in cloud), Camel's Hump, and Caudal, to the right. The valley between is cut off by Elm Ridge from this angle.
North Mountain seen from farmland in Kiskatom; part of South Mountain is visible to the far left. On the other side of the ridge, over 1800 feet above this picture's elevation, is the popular North-South Lake Campground.
Kaaterskill HP and South Mountain, seen from the same vantage point as above along NY-23A. The highway continues from here up the Kaaterskill Clove between the two mountains.
Again from the spot in Kiskatom, a view northwest towards Round Top. This small mountain in Cairo is a geological oddity and a local landmark.
Overlook from the Kaaterskill Falls trailhead. The world-famous waterfall is located about 3/4 of a mile from this stunning view, but is notorious for the high numbers of injuries and fatalities it has caused. For an afternoon drive, the overlook was impressive enough. This looks at the backside of Kaaterskill HP.
