2024-01-08: Cohoes City Highpoint

Elizabeth Court, elevation 315'. Cohoes highpoint, Albany County municipal highpoints 11/13.

I spent much of last interterm climbing town and city highpoints in Albany County, and on a bright, snow-covered morning in early January, I had set out to complete the last four municipalities in one full swoop. An ascent of Asher Ridge in the neighboring Colonie had just gone fantastically and I was looking forward to continuing my climbs.

Cohoes wasn't much of a mountaineering adventure. Its highpoint is located along Elizabeth Court, a residential road near a school, just inside the small city's western boundary. The only real excitement was getting turned around on the way there and having to drive the court twice in the process. I parked the car on the side of the road and got out real quick to take some pictures at the obvious crest of the hill, the highest point in the city.

Looking east from the top of Cohoes.

Cohoes is home to a number of interesting formations, including the Cohoes Falls at its northern border, but unfortunately the highpoint wasn't near any of those. I hopped back into the car and headed towards Green Island for the penultimate highpoint of the day.
