2020-03-27: Weed Road

In late March I walked a roughly six mile loop in Greenville NY, in the hamlet of Freehold, which took me down County Route 67, Weed Road, and Big Woods Road, all west of central Freehold.

A moss-coated rock sits in the Burroughs Creek, which runs alongside CR-67 outside of Freehold.
A tributary of the Burroughs Creek winds down from its source near the Freehold Airport.
Windham High Peak stands tall over the Freehold Airport, the most active airfield in Greene County.
Close-up on Windham's northeast face from over five miles away.
Mount Hayden rises over fencing and trees by the airport.
A camper provides a sense of scale beneath trees and the distant Mount Zoar.
Windham's impressive peak and its surrounding slopes dominate the view from the airport.
A clearer view of Windham's summit.
Directly south, Blackhead (L) and Acra Point (R) rise impressively beyond the forested plains of the Catskill Creek.
A close-up of snowy Blackhead and its long, evergreen-dominated summit plateau.
Here Windham High Peak looms over the backside of the hangars at the airport.
The last shot of Windham, showing more of its adjacent slope than is typically visible from the valley.
Sunlit moss coats the risen roots of this hemlock tree, part of a lovely grove along Weed Road.
A mossy stone rises from a silent swamp along Weed Road.
The fences and stone walls in this field along Big Woods Road gave it an almost ancient feel.
The first sign of spring: Early coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) blooms along the roadside.
This long-neglected house along Big Woods Road likely looks far older than it actually is.
Thick pads of moss coat the north-facing side of the house's roof.
More coltsfoot along the roadside, just outside Freehold.
